Mogadishu, April 16, 2020 – The closing ceremony of the 5th Light Infantry (LIC) and 7th Train the Trainers (TtT) courses took place, this morning, at the General Dhagabadan Training Center 2.

The 5th LIC trained about 100 soldiers with basic infantry training at company level, through Offensive and Defensive operations, Check point procedures, Fight in Build Up Areas, Counter IED procedures and a live fire exercise. The final part of the course was conducted by the SNA trainers through the “remote” support provided by EUTM-S’ instructors.

Moreover, the 7th TtT course has developed around 20 new Somali trainers qualified to conduct basic infantry training to units of the Somali National Army (SNA) independently.

The ceremony was attended by the EUTM-S Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Antonello DE SIO, who followed the event on video tele-conference from the EUTMS Headquarters accompanied by the Head of Trainers Team, LTC Hernandez ZACARIAS and the Training Leader Department, Major Massimo SCHIOZZI.

On site, the Somali National Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Ahmed MADOOBE, the GDTC-2 Commander, Brigadier General Mohamed Mohamud SANEY and the SNAF General Staff Director of Training, Colonel Mohamed Hassan BUNEY were present.

In his speech to the newly qualified trainers, BG DE SIO underlined the fundamental importance of training for the SNA and congratulated both the Staff of GDTC-2 and the attendees for the commitment shown during training, concluding with the hope that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible.

During the ceremony, 12 trainees (form both courses), who exhibited the highest level of skills and maintained meritorious performance during the course, were promoted to Non Commissioned Officers based on the proposals of the EUTM-S Trainers.
