EUROPEAN UNION TRAINING MISSION SOMALIA RECOGNISES DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

Mogadishu, 19 May 2019 – Yesterday, at International Campus in Mogadishu, the European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S) awarded medals to Italian, Spanish, British, Swedish, Finnish, Portuguese, Romanian and Serbian military personnel for their outstanding contribution to the Mission, which aims to strengthen federal defense institutions in Somalia.

The ceremony was held jointly with the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP) in a demonstration of the EU’s integrated approach in the country.

A number of dignitaries joined EUTM-S Mission Force Commander Brigadier General Matteo Spreafico and EUCAP Somalia Head of Mission Maria-Cristina Stepanescu for the ceremony.

EUTM-S uses a Three Pillar Approach of training, advising and mentoring to develop the capacity and capability of the Somali National Army and the Ministry of Defence.
