The European Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S) Medal Parade is a military ceremony in which participant are praised for their contribution to the work of the European Mission that directly supports the build-up of the Somali National Army (SNA) through training, mentoring and advising.

The ceremony for International troops and civilian personnel from EUCAP Somalia was held inside International Campus in Mogadishu in the afternoon of 27th July. The joint ceremony between EUTM-S and EUCAP points out the integrated approach of the European Union in Somalia.

EUTM-S Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Matteo SPREAFICO together with EUCAP Somalia Acting Head of Mission Chris REYNOLDS presided over the event and they awarded their respective personnel with the European Union Common Security and Defense Policy Service (CSDP).

Delivering an address during the event Brigadier General Matteo SPREAFICO said: “Our effort to build the Somali capacity in the security field is an important part of the European integrated and international comprehensive approach to Somalia. The mission is part of the Security sector reform”.

EUTM Somalia has been working closing with the SNA headquarters and the Somali Ministry of Defence. It has been helping to forge closer cooperation between the headquarters and the Ministry, promoting civilian oversight over the Armed Forces and assisting with the development of key policy and legislative documents.
