Mogadishu – 25 of October 2023.
EUTM-S Cdr Brigadier General Poli met with the Deputy Commander of the Italian Joint Operations Command (COVI), LtGen Lanza de Cristoforis. The visit of General Lanza, although short, was full of commitments which immediately included a meeting with the Chief of the Somali Armed Forces, General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyiddin. General Lanza de Cristoforis expressed his admiration for the results obtained by the Somali Armed Forces in countering the terrorist threat of Al-Shabab.
General Muhyiddin thanked the countries that make up the EUTM-S for the training offered to the Officers of Somali Armed Forces. Then addressing General Poli, he agreed on a timetable to meet both him and the Director of Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC), Lieutenant General Michiel van der Laan.
General Lanza de Cristoforis had the opportunity to speak with the Italian Ambassador in Mogadishu, Dr. Alberto Vecchi and with the Italian Defense Attaché, the Navy Captain Mario De Rosa.
Before leaving Mogadishu, General Lanza de Cristoforis met the military personnel of the Italian contingent in Somalia.
