SOMALI MINISTER OF DEFENCE AND CHIEF OF DEFENCE VISIT THE EUTM-S TRAINING INSTALLATION AND HEADQUARTER IN MOGADISHU

July 10th – Somali Minister of Defence (MoD), Hon. Hassan Ali Mohamed “Amar Damber”, the Hon. Sadik Hirsi Warfa, Secretary General of Defence Committee and the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Abdiweli Hussein Jama Gorod paid a visit to the European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S).

The high delegation visited initially the “General Dhagabadan Training Centre” (GDTC) in Mogadishu, the site where the European Union Training Mission military personnel trains the Somali National Army companies, where they were welcomed by the EUTM-S Mission Force Deputy Commander Col. Vikars Per Österberg and EUTM-S Heads of Training and Advisory Teams.

The Somali dignitaries, before moving to observe closely the training that EUTM-S trainers were delivering to the SNA personnel, took the opportunity to witness on the spot the ongoing renovation of the main gate of the GDTC.

All the Somali authorities gave, with a warm hand shaking and gratitude words, his thanks and appreciation to the EUTM-S trainers present and encouraged Somali soldiers to do their best to contribute to restore a safe and secure environment in Somalia.

Afterwards the Minister and the CDF visited the EUTM-S HQ, where they were welcomed by the outgoing EUTM-S Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Pietro Addis, and the incoming Mission Force Commander Brigadier General Matteo Spreafico. The MoD signed the “Book of Honor” of the Mission; in the note, he expressed his satisfaction regarding the improvements that the SNA has reached so far, and stressed the importance of the assistance and support that the EU is providing through EUTM-S mission to build the new Somali National Army.

In the afternoon the Minister of Defense attended, in the EUTM-S premise, a meeting with EUDEL representatives focused on “Villa Gashandiga” (headquarters of the Somali Ministry of Defense and Somali National Army General Staff) improvements.
