Mogadishu, 17 February 2020 – Special event for the European Military Contingent of the Somalia Training Mission which, in the last days, has donated school supplies to an orphanage in the city of Mogadishu.
The handover ceremony took place at the International Campus, Headquarters of the European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S), at the presence of the Mission Commander, Brigadier General Antonello De Sio, Deputy Head of Delegation to Somalia, Nicole Miller, the Chairwoman of the centre, Mrs Halimo Abdulle Ali, the EUCAP and EUNAVFOR Somalia representatives and the EUTM-S Senior National Representatives (SNRs).
The donated materials will be destined for the “Dr KADARE Orphanage Centre” in Mogadishu, a structure supported by state contributions, which currently houses 180 children followed until they reach the age of majority.
The Chairwoman of the centre, accompanied by a representation of children from the institute, expressed words of gratitude towards the personnel of the contingent.
The humanitarian project is entirely organized thanks to a voluntary fundraising organized by all the EUTM-S personnel employed in the Mission, with the collaboration of the Italian Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Cell under the direction of the Italian National Support Element (IT-NSE) and the entities/organization present within the International Campus.
Words of satisfaction were expressed by General De Sio, who underlined that the voluntary contribution is a tangible sign of the closeness and support of the Somali population by an entire community.
EUTM Somalia is a training mission, composed of military personnel coming from 8 nations, works in close cooperation with the Somali Ministry of Defence and Defence General Staff in order to support and improve their overall capabilities, facilitating the development of planning Command and Control competences.
