THE FIRST EUROPEAN UNION TRAINING MISSION SOMALIA (EUTM-S) COUNTER IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE COURSE HAS ENDED

On 21st of February the first EUROPEAN UNION TRAINING MISSION SOMALIA (EUTM-S) Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) Course concluded at General Dhagabadan Training Camp in Mogadishu.

The EUTM-S C-IED course two week training programme was designed to give general awareness about C-IED procedures to selected Somali National Army (SNA) trainees.  EUTM-S trainers delivered both theoretical instruction and practical training on C-IED Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTP) to help mitigate the IED threat

The course was attended by 20 SNA Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers belonging to the 32nd Engineering Battalion. EUTM-S trainers commended the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the trainees. Insurgent groups use IEDs to target both Somali security forces and local civilians; this training will therefore be very relevant for the trainees.

EUTM-S, committed to Somalia for over eight years now, conducts training, advising and mentoring activities to increase the capability and effectiveness of the SNA and other Somali Defence institutions.
