Mogadishu – 9th August 2022. EUTM-S supported the develop of the “Train the Trainers (TtT) Course on Gender Perspective, Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, implementation for SNAF – Somali National Armed Forces and MoD”.

The course aimed to support the building of faculty and gender experts’ capacity on, respectively, the integration of gender in military education and the application of educational principles to the delivery of gender content by gender experts. In order to contribute to reach an extensive integration of gender in military education in SNAF and, ultimately contributing to the integration of gender in military institutions and operations.

Thus, participatory training on Gender Perspective, is one of the fundamental pillars on which human rights and humanitarian law are based on. It is key to enhance awareness and accountability, and to move towards creating trusted Security Forces, which enforce and are accountable to the rule of law.

Finally, as pointed out during the closing ceremony by the EUTM-S Deputy Mission Force Commander, Col. Hans Granlund,: “It is crucial to recognize the fundamental contribution of the Somali National Army Trainers. As you know, this Course marks an important keystone in the Somali training arena, because it has been launched as “pilot project” in which Somali and EUTM-S trainers have worked shoulder by shoulder.
