Colonel Shove Gilby, Commander of UK Forces in Somalia, and his staff visited the General Dhagabadan Training Center in Mogadishu. EUTM-S uses this camp to train Somali National Army and Somali Police Force. Visitors, accompanied by Col. Joakim Karlquist, EUTM-S Deputy Force Commander, and Col. Miguel Echegoyen, EUTM-S Head of Training Team, had the opportunity to be briefed about future projects to improve the camp, to observe the training center’s facilities and the on-going courses’ activities. Col. Gilby showed particular interest on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Course and the Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED) Course, talking to the Somali trainees and answering their questions. British Forces have been in Somalia since 2017, helping to reduce the waves of terrorism by training the Somali National Army. The purpose of EUTM-S is to improve the quality of its support to Somali Security Forces through an integrated approach that could include other partners’ actions.
